However, due to the continued strong demand for electric tricycles among the public, and because non-standard models cannot meet the requirements for road use, switching to compliant models has become an inevitable trend. According to the China Electric Vehicle Association's prediction, by 2025, the sales of compliant electric tricycles are expected to exceed 4.5 million units, with a year-on-year growth rate of 35%.

One important change is the adjustment of the age range for motorcycle license examinations. Previously, the age limit for motorcycle and tricycle driver's license examinations was between 18 and 60 years old, but the new regulations have relaxed it to 18 to 70 years old, providing more opportunities for older people to learn to drive. Therefore, seniors aged 60 to 70 are now also eligible to take the motorcycle driver's license D and E exams.
It is precisely because the new regulations have relaxed the age limit for motorcycle driver's license examinations that many seniors over 60 have become interested in obtaining a driver's license. According to survey data from Linyi, Shandong, in the first quarter of 2025, the proportion of car purchases by seniors over 60 increased significantly by 11% compared to 2024. This change not only shows the pursuit of driving pleasure and travel convenience among seniors, but also injects new vitality into the diversified development of urban and rural economies. In addition, electric tricycles are playing an increasingly important role in urban and rural economies. Their multi-functionality makes them suitable not only for commuting but also for cargo transportation. Therefore, fields such as instant delivery services are gradually emerging, and large platforms such as Meituan and Ele.me are planning to add 500,000 delivery tricycles in 2025 to further expand the market.
Electric tricycles are gradually moving towards intelligence. Today, they can already be equipped with advanced functions such as electronic fences and remote locking, and have even achieved L4 autonomous driving. In Xiong'an New Area, JD Logistics has deployed 500 unmanned delivery tricycles, effectively reducing costs. Looking to the future, as the management of electric tricycles becomes increasingly strict, their sales will steadily climb. Vehicles will become more high-end and intelligent, with excellent cost performance, increasingly rich intelligent functions, and more convenient operation. At the same time, the reduction in production costs will further enhance the competitiveness of electric tricycles and attract more consumers.
