Market segmentation for a product is driven by the diversity of consumer or user needs.
A product's overall market can be segmented due to differences in consumer or user needs. User market segmentation is affected by many variables. Below, we analyze it from three perspectives: geographic factors, demographic factors, and psychological factors.
Geographic Segmentation
Geographic segmentation requires dividing the user market into different geographic units. Businesses need to thoroughly analyze the characteristics of geographic regions and the demographic characteristics of consumer groups to develop targeted strategies and conduct localized marketing. From product design, marketing plans, and after-sales service, businesses should focus on the differences brought about by geographic regional markets. Based on a differentiated marketing strategy, they should closely align with the characteristics of geographic regions to develop segmented user markets, which will surely achieve significant sales performance. For example, due to differences in geographic location, the South China market is mainly dominated by luxury electric vehicles, while North China is dominated by simpler models.
Demographic Segmentation
Demographic segmentation of the user market mainly involves segmenting the market according to demographic variables, such as age, gender, family size, social class, income, occupation, and education, to divide consumers into different groups. Because demographic variables are closely related to consumer needs, preferences, and usage rates, they are frequently used to distinguish consumer groups.
At the 2012 Nanjing exhibition, various companies, especially some industry brands, made significant improvements and progress in "user segmentation and product personalization." For example, Aima: Aima separated and displayed each product category, and each different category showcased unique product characteristics. Its flagship "candy" model is known to be designed for stylish urban women and students. Another example is Phoenix: Phoenix categorized and displayed its models, such as heavy-duty, simple, and luxury models. Each category's exhibition area featured "living sculptures" representing specific industries. For example, the heavy-duty area showcased worker imagery, while the power model area featured racing drivers. Different models correspond to different user groups, demonstrating a highly targeted approach.
